Five million doses of measles and rubella vaccine will be delivered to the Philippines, following a donation organized by Britain's  Prince C harles. The virus has ravaged the country since Typhoon Haiyan -- known as Yolanda in the Philippines -- hit on November 8 last year, leaving more than 6,000 dead and nearly 1,800 unaccounted for. According to the Filipino Department of Health, 15,600 cases of measles were reported during the first 10 weeks of 2014, compared to just 5,863 cases during the whole of 2013. The spread of the virus has been exacerbated by mass migration, with nearly four million people displaced by the devastating typhoon, according to the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The immunization program will be mainly targeted at children aged from nine months to five year olds who are at most risk from the epidemic: the hope is that the plan will potentially save 5,000 lives. The timely intervention of the Federal, State and private fire services on Tuesday evening saved the old headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria at Tinubu Square in central Lagos from being razed down. Mr Njoku Chika, Head of Fire Prevention, Federal Fire Service in Lagos, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the fire started at about 5.00 pm from the first floor on the left wing of the five storey building. Chika said that the floor was housing the administrative department of the apex bank, stressing that the fire was put out by 5.10 pm. “Fire services from the Federal, State, UBA, Union Bank collaborated to put out the inferno. “The police and civil defence corps provided security to the areas.. No death was recorded,’’ Chika said. Mr Rasak Fadipe, Director, Lagos State Fire Service, told NAN that one of his men was injured in the thick smoke, but the man was resuscitated. The  statement reads : "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. The chartered aircraft is said to be maintained on a bill of 500,000 Euros or N3.120m monthly for Alison-Madueke’s personal use. A member from Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Adejare, who brought the issue before the House on Thursday last week, had stated that N3.120bn had been spent on the maintenance of the jet in the last two years. The matter was referred to the House Committee on Public Accounts for investigation. Delegates to the National Conference on Tuesday rejected proposed powers of the leadership to revoke accreditation of any media that publishes “unfair and offensive” report. The conference also rebuffed a complaint by the President, Public Interest Lawyers League, Mr. Abdul Mahmud, against a national daily which published photos of a few delegates caught sleeping at the plenary on Monday. Mahmud had also complained that the media misrepresented the conference when it reported that delegates requested for allowances for their aides. According to him, a request by a delegate cannot represent the general views of the delegates. Mahmud also requested the conference to warn the media against reporting events that could incite the public against the delegates. But the spokesperson of the Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, objected to the request. He said, “There should be no attempt to gag the media. The Independent Corrupt and other related offences Commission on Tuesday re-arraigned ex-Senator David Iornem before an Abuja Federal High Court for allegedly duping some unsuspecting Nigerians of over N200m through foreign universities admission racket. Iornem was arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed on a 14-count criminal charge bordering on extortion and money laundering. Counsel for ICPC, Mr. Ebenezer Shogunle, told the court that Iornem ran two private foreign universities and duped some unsuspecting Nigerians through fraudulent admission offers. Joined as first and second accused in the suit were the two universities: Island Open University and Commonwealth University of Belize. Iornem was said to have conspired with one Bruce Duncan and others at large to commit the said crime. Two persons were on Tuesday confirmed dead and several wounded in a communal clash at a border between Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The Chairman of Pankshin Local Government, Mr Samuel Goar, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Pankshin. He said the clash was between Ngas and Pai people in Shiwer community of Pankshin LG and Dokpai community in Kanke council. The chairman said mostly affected areas in the crisis were Piri, Tigiya and Irnet villages within the Shiwer and Dokpai districts. He said it took the intervention of the security operatives and management of the two councils to stop the clash. The chairman explained that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday and left over 50 houses burnt with many people displaced.
