The former Aviation Minister said this in a new post he shared on his Facebook wall. It reads "On 29th July 2016, CNN reported that "the Nigerian government is preparing troops for a crackdown in the Niger Delta if peace talks fail". This is sad and ominous. As United States Senator Ted Cruz once said "the light of truth is stronger than the terror of darkness". It follows that the biggest mistake that the Buhari administtation can possibly make is to attempt to "crack down" on the Niger Delta and kill innocent civilians.

Former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and wife shot dead by 16-year-old son

The teenage son of former NFL player and Miami Dolphins linebacker has been charged with murdering his parents at their home in Houston, Texas. The 16-year-old was charged as a juvenile andis being questioned by investigators in connection with the deaths of Antonio and Dawn Armstrong, NBC reports.       Armstrong, 42,  who spent a season as a linebacker with the Miami Dolphins, and his wife Dawn were both shot in the early hours of  Friday  morning. Ms Armstrong died at the scene, while her husband was later pronounced dead at the city’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, having suffered a gunshot wound to his head.

Sokoto uncovers 13,000 ghost workers in LGAs

Sokoto State Government said it has discovered no fewer than 12,915 ghost workers whose names were added into the payroll of the 23 Local Governments Areas of the state. The State Commissioner for Local Governments and Community Development, Alhaji Mannir Dan-Iya, disclosed this at a media briefing in Sokoto. "The Ministry, through the Monitoring Department and other stakeholders has concluded a local government junior staff verification of about 58,143 workers, comprising of scheduled and unscheduled staff. "The verification exercise has yielded a fruitful result, whereby about 12, 915 staff,comprising of seat-at-home and ghost workers were fished out of the local governments staff payrolls.

Lagos Court Dissolves 21-year-old Marriage over Wife’s Inability to Cook

A 46-year-old woman,  Aisha , on Wednesday lost her 21-year-old marriage to her husband,  Ashimiyu , over poor cooking. The petitioner,  Ashimiyu , 54, approached the court and asked it to dissolve the marriage over his wife’s alleged poor cooking. “My wife does not know how to cook, her food was always tasteless. Anytime she cooks and I complain about it, she will tell me to cook myself. I started cooking my food because if I had continued to eat her food, I might have fallen sick. My wife was very dirty; she will not wash or sweep the house. Everywhere in the house used to smell. She kept packing used plates for four days or more without washing them and I was always doing the cleaning.

Turkish Govt ask FG to close down all Turkish schools in Nigeria

The Turkish government has appealed to the Federal government to close down the 17 Nigerian-Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) in Nigeria, saying they all belong to Fetullah Gulen accused of sponsoring the July 15th failed military coup in Turkey. The Turkish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, disclosed this while hosting the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani on July 28th.

Police, DSS Hold Meeting with Wike and Amaechi to Ensure Peace Ahead of Rivers Re-Run

The Acting Inspector-General of Police,  Ibrahim Idris  and the Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS) ,  Alhaji Musa Daura  on Tuesday held a meeting with the former governor of Rivers state and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi , and the current governor of the state,  Nyesom Wike  to chart the path to peace in the state before, during and after the legislative re-run elections. The  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  had earlier postponed the the re-run elections due to violent activities and the burning down of its office in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state. Obanikoro's aide narrates how he transported N1.2bn to Fayose in Ekiti state

An aide of former Minister for State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, Lt. Commander A. O. Adewale, yesterday told EFCC operatives how on the orders of Obanikoro, himself and other staff members of Obanikoro, transported N1.2 billion to Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose in 2014. The N1.2 billion is part of the N4.745 billion allegedly paid into Obanikoro’s company, Sylva Mcnamara by the Office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki. According to  The Nation , Adewale said they started the trip with the money from Obanikoro's Parkview estate home in Ikoyi, Lagos. "I was posted as the Flag Lieutenant to the Hon. Former governor, Rotimi Amaechi says - No one can prove I stole Rivers State money

Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has denied allegations that he embezzled money meant for the development of Rivers state when he was governor. Amaechi said this while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on corruption organised by the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja today July 28th. “If you had followed the Rivers State government when I was governor, we were the first state to introduce the Public Procurement Law in the country. The state cabinet used to call the Director General of Public Procurement in the state as an alternative governor, that they wanted an amendment to that law. The reason they wanted amendment is that he (DG) refused to increase the threshold to one hundred million naira, per ministry, instead he reduced it to 10 million naira. I had a battle with him (DG BPE) and the world bank who insisted that we should not go for an amendment but should persuade him to increase the threshold. Ambassadorial Screening The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday in Abuja, screened 15 ambassadorial nominees out of 47 that were sent by  President Muhammadu Buhari  for confirmation. The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang , led the nominees to the screening venue. The Chairman of the committee,  Senator Monsurat Sunmonu , after the screening, announced that the committee will continue with the exercise on Wednesday. The nominees answered questions ranging from their qualification to experience on the job. However, some of the nominees failed to recite the National Anthem and Pledge when asked to do so.
