Toyin Aimakhu collapses during Nollywood football match

Last Thursday, Actress Toyin Aimakhu collapsed during a novelty football  match between the Actors Guild of Nigeria, aka Nollywood and Ghana’s Gollywood at the Kumasi Stadium in Ghana. The Actress dislocated her knee cap and collapsed during a penalty shot. She was immediately resuscitated by the medical team. The Nollywood team included comic Actors, Charles Inojie, Victor Osuagwu, Toyin Aimakhu, AGN president, Ibinabo Fibersima, Segun Arinze, Grace Amah and others. They were beaten 3-1 by the Ghanaian Actors in the fun-filled game. Ghana opened scores in the first 20 minutes of the match and scored another in the second half, while Ibinabo Fiberesima scored the only goal for the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Virginia university back to normal after bomb threat

A George Mason University campus resumed normal operations after a bomb threat was investigated on Thursday, the Virginia school said. The police investigation at the Prince William campus, about 30 miles southwest of Washington has concluded, the university said on its website. Buildings had been evacuated and shuttle bus service was suspended as authorities sought information about who made the bomb threat. The school's students were on spring break this week. Nearly 33,920 students attend George Mason, according to the website. The bomb threat came a week after a written threat was found at George Mason's Fairfax campus. A search turned up nothing.

UEFA to investigate ‘Gay Gunners’ banner with Ozil’s picture displayed by Bayern fans [PHOTO]

UEFA has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have opened against Bayern Munich, over an ‘illicit’ banner displayed by their fans, during their match with Arsenal on Tuesday. The image, which had a cannon and Arsenal’s German midfielder Mesut Ozil on it, bore the words “Gay Gunners” and went viral on Twitter after the match which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena. UEFA will also investigate “discriminatory behaviour” from the home fans, as well as the delayed kick-off time. The case will be heard on March 20 by the Control and Disciplinary Body. The Gunners were knocked out 3-1 on aggregate, after Lukas Podolski levelled from a tight angle following Bastian Schweinteiger’s opener.

Woman stabs sister to death in Ondo

A 62 year-old woman, Mrs Yemi Olasehinde,of Okedasa area of Ondo town was allegedly stabbed to death yesterday by her younger sister, Iyanu Olasehinde. Although details of the incident still remains sketchy, it was learnt that the victim was deported from the United States of America[USA] some years ago. The duo were said to have engaged each other in a hot argument over the inheritance of their late father, before the suspect, a worker in one of the local government Councils in Ondo State ,allegedly used a knife to stab her elder sister. One of the sources in the area told DailyPost that, the suspect was in the house on the fateful day, when an argument ensued between him and his sister, resulting to exchange of uncomplimentary words. It led to a situation where the suspect allegedly took a kitchen knife and stabbed the late woman. The Victim raised the alarm which attracted neighbours, who rushed her to a private hospital where she was later confirmed dead by doctors. ...

Ghanaian police ignoring enquiry into my son’s murder

Godwin Agogu Mr. Fred Ayogu, the father of a Nigerian student, Godwin, 19, who was murdered at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, has accused the Ghanaian police of ignoring enquiries from the family. Ayogu, a Lagos-based businessman said attempts to get information from the Ghanaian police concerning investigation into Godwin’s murder had been met with silence. The Cape Coast Police Command was said to be handling the investigation into the murder of the 19-year-old. Godwin, a 300-level student of Economics, was allegedly killed by yet-to-be identified friends for attempting to get back $5,300 which he had loaned them. Representatives uncover fresh missing N35bn

Members during plenary at the floor of the Nigeria House of Representativ es More revelations by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts indicated on Thursday that the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation could not account for N35bn it collected from the Service Wide Vote within nine years. While the records of the Budget Office of the Federation showed that the OHSF received N52bn between 2004 and 2012, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Remi Adelakun, admitted only N17.6bn. The committee, which is chaired by Mr. Solomon Olamilekan, insisted on Thursday that Adelakun must explain how the N35bn was spent. At Thursday’s session, the permanent secretary and officials of the budget office had disagreed over how much the latter released to the OHSF. The records of the budget office showed that in 2004, the OHSF received N2.7bn; N9.8m in 2005; N701.7m in 2006; N896.3m in 2007; N5.3bn in 2008 and another N612.9m; and N70m in 2009. Akatakpo Uneasy calm prevails in Rivers State, after the forceful abduction of a popular radio presenter, Anthony Akatakpo, aka Diplomatic Akas Baba, by unknown gunmen on Thursday. Akatakpo, who works with  Wazobia FM , was kidnapped from his residence in Rumuekini, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Eye witness accounts say that the kidnappers, who were about 12 in number, shot the radio presenter in the leg before taking him away in his private Mitsubishi Endeavor Sport Utillity Vehicle with registration number LSD 871 CM at about 3 am. Although no contact was established between the kidnappers and their victim’s family, they left a message for Akatakpo’s pregnant wife instructing her to pay them a ransom of N10m or risk having him killed.                                                           Chief Inengite Nitabai Chief Inengite Nitabai, President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle and adopted father, has been rescued by the police after 18 days in the kidnappers’ den. However, Nitabai, whose abduction had occupied media space, has sour tales to tell. Narrating his ordeal in the hands of his captors, Nitabai, a former university lecturer, said his abductors fed him with  garri  and oil for the 18 days he was held captive. He also said he was blindfolded throughout the period. He said  he was almost submerged in a swamp while the kidnappers were moving him from one spot to another because he was blindfolded. Laura Cunliffe jailed for microwaving pet kitten

A woman who killed her pet kitten by cooking it in a microwave because she thought it had attacked her goldfish has been jailed for 14 weeks. Laura Cunliffe, 23, of Hoyland, near Barnsley, put black-and-white Mowgli into the microwave and turned it on for five minutes. She was jailed at Barnsley Magistrates' Court after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. District Judge John Foster said it was an "act of utterly horrendous cruelty". The court heard Cunliffe put the kitten into the microwave and switched it on but took the animal out about a minute later when she realised what she had done. The kitten died later. 'Suffered terribly' Her solicitor, Alan Greaves, said Cunliffe had longstanding problems with psychotic depression and had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act 20 times. As she was sentenced a family member shouted from the public gallery: "She doesn't know what's happening - she hasn't a clue."...

Norfolk helicopter crash: Four feared dead

Four people are feared dead after a helicopter crashed in a remote part of Norfolk. Police said a civilian aircraft with four people on board had crashed in Gillingham, near Beccles, at about 19:30 GMT. Emergency services remain on scene and a cordon around the site is in place. It is not yet known what caused the crash but eyewitnesses reported foggy conditions in the area at the time the helicopter came down. The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said it was called at 19:45 to reports of a helicopter crash. 'Very foggy' In a statement it said: "EEAST sent a number of resources to the incident including two ambulance officers, three ambulances, two doctors and one rapid response car." Gillingham is a small village in the south of Norfolk with a population of about 650. Roland Bronk, owner of The Swan House inn and restaurant in Beccles, said it had been "very foggy" in the area.
