Lassa Fever Death Toll Hits 40

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, has revealed that over 40 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak of the deadly viral disease, Lassa Fever in Nigeria. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja today, Adewole said the viral disease which is spread by infected rodents, has spread to ten states in the last six weeks when the first case was reported in November. “In the last six weeks Nigeria has been experiencing Lassa fever outbreak which so far has affected 10 states in the country. The states affected include Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo state. The total number so far reported is 86 and 40 deaths with the mortality rate of 45%. Our laboratories have confirmed 22 cases so far, indicative of a new round trip of Lassa fever outbreak,” he said.

ISIS fighter publicly executes his own mother

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an ISIS fighter publicly executed his mother in Raqqa, Syria, because she encouraged him to leave the group. The woman said to be in her 40s, obviously worried for her son's safety warned him to leave because she feared that the US-backed coalition was going to wipe out the terror group. Not only did her son not heed her advice, he reported her to the group. Citing local sources, the Observatory said the 20-year-old man executed his mother  on Wednesday  near the post office building where she worked in front of hundreds of people in Raqqa, a main base of operations for the group in Syria.

'I'll let Africa take care of itself'-Yaya Toure blasts CAF after player of the year snub

 Ivory Coast and Man city midfielder Yaya Toure, has labelled the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as  'indecent' and ‘pathetic’ for not awarding him the African Player of the Year award. Toure's complaints appeared to have come from a perceived lack of recognition of Ivory Coast winning the Africa Cup of Nations back in February. Mexican drug kingpin El Chapo recaptured in Mexico after gunfight

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, one of the world's most sought-after drug lords, has been captured in his Sinaloa hometown. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced Friday. "Mission accomplished!" the president said via his Twitter account. He was captured again today at 4:30am in a firefight between his bodyguards and Mexican Marine special forces in the Sinaloa city of Los Mochis, on the Pacific coast and not far from his home, government officials said. Five of his associates were killed, six injured and several captured, the navy said. One marine was wounded. The special forces were responding to a citizen’s tip regarding armed people in a home when they came under fire, the navy said.
