Kidnappers attempt to abduct Jonathan’s cousin
Barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan’s adopted father, Inengite Nitabai regained was set free by his abductors, the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, has foiled another attempt by some gunmen to kidnap one Mrs. Patience Agbani, who is said to be president Jonathan’s cousin.
Agbani who is said to be a relative of Jonathan’s mother, was reportedly trailed by the gunmen numbering about six at Akimpli, Ogbia Local Government Area about 11pm on Wednesday while returning from her business place.
It was learnt that Patience, on sighting them from a distance, took to her heels while her assailants pursued her.
The Media Coordinator, JTF, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, who confirmed the incident, said Agbani hid in an uncompleted building and called an operative of the JTF in the area.
Nwachukwu said, “We foiled the kidnap attempt on the woman at Akimpli at about 11pm. She was returning from her business at about 11.30 pm. But she was being trailed by a group of men numbering about six.
“They pursued her but good enough, she had the number of one of our men deployed in SETRACO in Ogbia. Our patrol team responded swiftly and they were able to prevent the kidnap.”
He said JTF was able to rescue the woman because the woman called the outfit and provided it with useful information about her location.
“We were able to foil the attempt from the would-be victim because of the quality of information we got. People should assist JTF with useful information,” he said.
