UEFA to investigate ‘Gay Gunners’ banner with Ozil’s picture displayed by Bayern fans [PHOTO]
UEFA has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have opened against Bayern Munich, over an ‘illicit’ banner displayed by their fans, during their match with Arsenal on Tuesday.
The image, which had a cannon and Arsenal’s German midfielder Mesut Ozil on it, bore the words “Gay Gunners” and went viral on Twitter after the match which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.
UEFA will also investigate “discriminatory behaviour” from the home fans, as well as the delayed kick-off time. The case will be heard on March 20 by the Control and Disciplinary Body.
The Gunners were knocked out 3-1 on aggregate, after Lukas Podolski levelled from a tight angle following Bastian Schweinteiger’s opener.
