Scott Disick's Hospitalization Was His Wake-Up Call, Says Source
When Scott Disick was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning in June, he had a moment of clarity.
"Scott has known that he needed help for a while, but he just wasn't ready to take that leap," says a close source. "He finally had to humble himself and say, 'Hey, I need help.' It was a big step for him, and it took a lot of faith on his part."
Among other steps, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star sought counseling with Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., the Miami pastor who performed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding. "He's finding his spiritual center now," says the source. "I know what his public persona is, but he's really a sensitive guy with a small spiritual side."
Disick, 31, who's expecting a third child with girlfriend Kourtney Kardashian, has been floundering for several months and is still reeling from two devastating losses. His mother, Bonnie, died in October, and just three months later, Disick lost his father.
"Obviously, his parents dying had a profound impact on him, and he has been grieving their loss," says the source. "But don't make the mistake of assuming that his problems started then. They didn't. The losses of his parents amplified some issues that he already had."
The source adds, "We all turn to self-medication when we're in pain, and that's what he has done."
Disick's family and friends have rallied around him and offered their support. "Everyone in his life has wanted to help him," says the source, who notes that Disick is taking steps to correct the problem. For one thing, he hasn't had a drink since his hospitalization. "He's taking the steps he needs to make things right."
"Scott struggles with the same things as us all," adds the source. "I wouldn't say that his demons are any bigger than anyone else's. He just works through them publicly."
