Yacine Brahimi Defeats Vincent Enyeama to Win BBC African Footballer of the Year
Yacine Brahimi, 24-year-old Algerian midfielder has been named BBC African Footballer of the year 2014.
Many were rooting for Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama to win the award. However, Enyeama along with Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ivorian pair Gervinho and Yaya Toure, lost to Brahimi, BBC reports.
Football fans from fans in 207 FIFA-registered countries participated in the voting process.
Speaking on winning the award, Brahimi says:
It’s a big honour for me to receive this wonderful trophy. I owe it to my country, Algeria, and to all the people who voted for me.
It’s also a trophy for the whole of Africa, because it rewards an African player. So I am really very happy.
