NDLEA arrests 22-year-old with narcotics concealed in noodles

The State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Bayelsa State command, Mr. Frank Hanachor, says his command has arrested a 22-year-old man with 4.2 kg of hard drugs hidden inside a carton of Indomie brand of Noodle.

Hanachor, who gave the name of the suspect as Tunde Olaniyan, said on Monday that he (Olaniyan) was apprehended last week by NDLEA operatives on motorized patrol along the East-West Road in Bayelsa.

The commander said, “Tunde Olaniyan, male, 22 years old was arrested with 4.2 kg of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa concealed inside a carton of Indomie brand of noodles.

“The pallets of compressed cannabis were concealed among packets of the noodles within the carton. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was traveling in a commercial passenger bus belonging to a renowned transport company.

“The current security challenges in the country calls for extra vigilance on the part of commercial transport service operators to ensure that their vehicles do not inadvertently become veritable harbingers of death and destruction to the people.”

Hanachor also said his command had achieved other notable arrests including the arrest of one Ezi Litabai, 25, with 45.8 grammes of high grade heroin in his possession last Thursday at Akenfa Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

He added that Kopu Jokori, 38, was arrested at Ewoi community, in Ogbia LGA.

He said at the time of his (Jokori) arrest, he was found to be in possession of 5.2kg of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The State Commander urged all residents of Bayelsa to join hands with the state Command to check the nefarious activities of drug dealers by availing the command with useful information.

Hanachor further warned the youths against abusing hard drugs as it was their lives and future they were jeopardising.

The NDLEA boss once again cautioned inter-city commercial transport operators to ensure that their vehicles were not used as means of conveyance for illicit drugs.

“Henceforth, the full measure of the law would be taken against any commercial transport operator who has not taken all necessary precaution to ensure that their vehicles are not used for ferrying illicit drugs,” he said.
