Lian Kao, a Taiwanese student recently became blind due to eyeball-eating amoebas. Daily Mail reports that the hungry single-celled organisms formed after she knowingly left her contacts in for six months straight without changing or cleaning the lenses. The lack of attention to eye hygiene created a breeding ground for an acanthamoeba infection to form in her contacts and her corneas. After the amoebas formed, they began burrowing into the student’s eyeballs, causing her to lose her vision. She allegedly left the one pair of contacts in even while swimming and sleeping. Wu Juan-liang, the director of ophthalmology at Taipei’s Wan Fang Hospital, explained. “A shortage of oxygen can destroy the surface of the epithelial tissue, creating tiny wounds into which the bacteria can easily infect, spreading to the rest of the eye and providing a perfect breeding ground. There's keeping up with Kim Kardashian, and then there's really keeping up with Kim Kardashian. This woman falls into the latter category. London resident Claire Leeson has spent almost £20,000 (more than $30,000 for you Yanks) in plastic surgery and cosmetic enhancements in an effort to look more like her idol, Kim K. The 24-year-old told This Morning that part of the reason she wanted to resemble Kim so badly was because she was bullied so much in school. "I was told every day that I was the ‘ugliest thing alive' and I should ‘kill myself. When I left school friends would tell me that I had a resemblance to Kim," Claire said. "So, I watched [Keeping Up With the Kardashians] and realized I had the same amount of siblings and that we have the same kind of arguments and things going on. I thought she was so beautiful and I really wanted to be like her." Claire has had a boob job, teeth whitening, hair extensions and dropped thousands on spray
