Punch reports: When on Wednesday 29-year-old Saheed Badmus went to a viewing centre on Lamina Street, Egbe, Lagos State, to watch the UEFA Champions League semi-final match between Chelsea Football Club and Atletico Madrid, little did he know that was the last match he would ever watch. The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Friday allayed fears of insecurity in Abuja as the World Economic Forum on Africa begins on Wednesday, May 7. She told newsmen in Abuja that President Goodluck Jonathan would make a statement on the forum and security issues shortly. She said “with the World Economic Forum, of course, it’s not easy; the news we have so far is that people are asking questions but it’s seems encouraging. “I think that by the time we hear some of the security measures that the president is going to announce, we will see that we will calm the nerves of those who are proposing to come. “We have also sent a press advisory but we should focus now on the feelings. I told you that I was sad about the abducted girls and we should focus on what to do to bring the girls back. “And, we should als

Pippa Middleton Accused of Wearing "False Bottom" at Royal Wedding

Image
It's been three years since the royal wedding, but royal watchers are still talking about Pippa Middleton's derriere. Kate Middleton's sister has been accused of enhancing her backside, which became famous when she followed her sister into her wedding to Prince William in April 2011 in a stunning well-fitted white Alexander McQueen dress. Stephane Bern, A Knight of the Order of Grimaldo in Monaco and an etiquette expert, argues that Pippa, 30, wore a "false bottom" for the big day. "Of course she had a false bottom,” Bern said on his talk show on channel France 2. "I repeat it: she had a false bottom. You take her away from that and she has normal buttocks." Bern added: "It was an optical illusion; she knew there were a billion people watching. It was the moment to show it." The younger sister to the Duchess of Cambridge isn't unfamiliar with such accusations. Middleton joked about the world's fascination with her backside

Iyabo writes Boko Haram, says insurgents more competent than Jonathan’s men

Image
Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has accused those in President Goodluck Jonathan’s inner circle of being a hindrance to the resolution of the crisis posed by the Boko Haram insurgency. In an open letter to the Islamist sect, whose leadership she credited with “more sense,” Senator Obasanjo, however, faulted the insurgents for betraying the true essence of revolutionaries in directing their venom against the lower class. Dr. Obasanjo in the 860-word letter particularly cringed at the abduction of hundreds of school girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, saying their crave for sexual gratification is no excuse for the abduction. While noting her surprise that more armed groups have not risen against the state given the social and living conditions of the majority of the population, she wrote: “I am moved to write about the current state of affairs in Nigeria. My first inclination was to write to the President but since all letters to him seem to elicit only open derisi
