“Team Africa” Wins! 1st Edition of Africa Beach Polo at ‘Play At Bamboo’ Lagos was a Success
The maiden edition of Africa Beach Polo, an international arena polo league held on the world’s first permanent beach arena, Play at Bamboo, Lagos.
The arena held its soft opening with its first Africa Beach Polo exhibition match, which saw a team made of players from around the world like Neku Atawodi(Nigeria), Thomas Hope (Argentina), Tim Ward (UK), substituting for Malcolm Borwick (UK) , take on an African team of Pierre Henri Ngoumou(France/Cameroun), Yemo Alakija (Nigeria), Sadiq Dantata (Nigeria).
Team Africa beat Team World by 6-4 points, with goals scored on both sides by Pierre Henri Ngoumou, Tim Ward, Yemo Alakija and Neku Atawodi.
Guests were entertained by live violinist, Godwin Strings, while a graffiti artist, live painted the game while it was played. The national anthem was performed by Nigerian Idol runner up Beebee Bassey.
Guests included the President of the Lagos Polo Club, Ade Laoye, the American Consulate, and many polo fans. Nigerian celebrities supported the polo event including Eku Edewor, Wale Davies, Ladipoe, Boj, Asa Asika, Wana Sambo, DJ Obi, Wana Sambo, Bankole Cardoso, Charles Okpaleke, CNN’s Keturah King, and others.
The league will continue end of May with 7 confirmed national teams. The exhibition game can be watched on Super Sport from next week.
