Go Behind the Scenes of Ariana Grande’s First InStyle Cover!

It may still be November, but we’re already thinking about all things sparkly and pretty for the upcoming holiday season, and what could be more luminous and lovely than the December issue of InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download November 14, featuring none other than pop sensation Ariana Grande.

The 21-year-old singer showed up to her first-ever InStyle cover shoot at N.Y.C.’s Milk Studios toting a Chanel handbag and a Starbucks (grande, natch). To set the mood, she put on a few of her favorite Madonna hits, like “Ray of Light” and “Like a Virgin,” before giving us a sneak preview of one of her own new tracks.

In addition to the gorgeous red Prabal Gurung gown she wears on our cover (paired with diamond and 18kt gold stud earrings by Jennifer Meyer), the star tried on a slew of patterned knits and A-line skirts for the shots that appear inside the issue. For her makeup, Grande asked pro Mariel Barrera to model her eyeliner after Angelina Jolie‘s go-to winged look, while Jennifer Lopez served as the muse for her bronzed skin. As for that ever-present pony? “She likes Brigitte Bardot sexpot hair,” explains hairstylist Dalina Rebollo.
